The Design Studio lets your customers design blank products themselves, right from your store. Customers click a Customize button on the product page, add their logo or artwork, see a mockup, and place their order. Corporate Merch then produces and ships it as designed.
Before you start: Make sure you’ve connected your Corporate Merch account and pushed at least one blank product to your store. See How to Sync Blank Products into Shopify.
Step 1: Request your Design Studio key
Email support@corporatemerch.com and ask for a Design Studio key for your store.
Your Design Studio key is separate from the API key you used to connect your account. You’ll need both.
Step 2: Add your key to the app
- In your Shopify admin, open Corporate Merch under Apps, then go to Settings.
- Paste your key into the Product Customizer (Tool) Iframe key field.
- Save your settings.
Keep your Design Studio key private, the same as your API key.
Step 3: Add the Customize button to your theme
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes and click Customize on your theme.
- Open your product page template.
- Click Add block, go to the Apps tab, and select Customize button.
- Drag the block to where you want it on the page, then click Save.
That’s it. The Design Studio is now live in your store.
Which products show the Customize button
The Customize button appears automatically on every blank product you’ve pushed from Corporate Merch. Other products in your store won’t show it, even though they use the same product page template.
This works through a customizable tag that the app adds to each blank product in Shopify. Don’t remove this tag, or the Customize button will stop appearing on that product.
What your customers see
When a customer clicks Customize on a blank product, the Design Studio opens and they can add their artwork to the product. When they save their design, they’re taken to a new page showing a mockup of their designed product, where they can place their order.
You can design and manage this mockup page to match your store.
Where designed products are saved
When a customer saves a design, the designed product is created in your Corporate Merch account on the My Catalog page at corporatemerch.com.
Designed products are not created as new products in your Shopify store. Instead, each order includes the designed product’s ID and variant ID in its order details, so Corporate Merch knows exactly what to produce. In your Shopify orders, the item appears as the blank product.
